MVP Newsletter Jan 2026

We have had a busy few months since our last newsletter article, attendance has been very good, and we have welcomed several new members since the summer. Our September meeting was based around the Mortimer W.I.Scrapbook of 1965, and if that doesn’t seem very long ago for some of us, we were delighted to see photos of the village and its environs, and lively discussion ensued about the changes in the last 60 years. A speaker from the Berkshire Family History Society gave a Hallowe’en flavour to our October meeting, as she took us on a stroll through Berkshire’s graveyards, which are full of stories about the individuals who are buried there, the communities in which they lived and the prevailing burial customs and superstitions, revealing local industry and commerce and the impact of both local and national events. November was ‘noisy’, as we had a talk about coaches and coach horns, from the Golden Age of coaching to the present day, with our speaker in colourful costume who demonstrated the different kinds of coach horn. In December, we were delighted to invite members to ‘show and tell’ a little bit about their personal histories, and how they came to live in Mortimer, and it’s always a pleasure to hear from members of the group who invariably confirm to us how lucky we are to be living in such a ‘together’ community. New members are always welcome to our meetings, and we very much appreciate your comments and photos on the MVP FB page about people and places associated with Mortimer.
