Our last four meetings have been very varied and enjoyable, starting in June with a talk on Transport Through the Ages in West Berkshire, to tie in with the village event later in the month, at which we held a large stall with several displays and a great deal of interest. We had almost 40 people for our village walk in July, a beautiful evening to learn about different aspects of our village centred around St John’s and King Street, and why Mortimer is the shape that it is! Our August meeting took the form, as always, of an afternoon party, generously hosted once again by Carolyn and Bob, and we enjoyed a variety of food provided by members, and drink provided by MLHG itself. In September we learnt about local names, and how King Henry 1 of France, The Devil, Roman horses, French weavers and Goodboys are connected with the history of Mortimer…fascinating stuff! Click here for details of this fascinating talk.
We continue to grow, and are always welcoming new members, as well as any suggestions for future topics at meetings.
